About the Cluster of Excellence livMatS

"Living, Adaptive and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems" (livMatS) is a research cluster at the University of Freiburg, Germany, that is founded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) as a Cluster of Excellence.

It unites more that 100 young and established researchers from biomimetics, chemistry, material sciences, microsystems engineering, sustainability research, psychology and philosophy.

The researchers at the cluster develop life-like materials systems inspired by nature. This means that these systems will be able to adapt autonomously to their environment, harvest clean energy from it, and will be insensitive to damage, or able to recover from it.
